The Department of Supplier Diversity Annual Appreciation Luncheon **Invitation Only Event**
The Appreciation Luncheon will be held Tuesday, October 7, 2008 at Hill University Center, Great Hall from 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. The Guest Speaker is Dr. Benjamin S. Carson, Sr. Dr. Carson is full professor of neurosurgery, oncology, plastic surgery and pediatrics at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine and directs pediatric neurosurgery at Johns Hopkins Children’s Center in Baltimore, MD.
The Department of Supplier Diversity and Birmingham Public Library The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) and the Birmingham Public Library hosted a special event to debut a new, free service that will make vendor applications and notices of contracts more accessible to disadvantaged small business owners who do not have access to computers.
The Dividends of Diversity UAB is a dynamic blend of people, ideas and opportunities. Its success depends on diversity – literally. To sustain its growth, UAB purchases a wide variety of goods and services from local suppliers everyday.
The program’s benefits touch entrepreneurs throughout Alabama. By increasing opportunities for minority and women-owned suppliers, UAB boosts business development throughout the city and state. As the university’s supplier base expands, the economy expands and the community grows.
